In 2000, video games publisher Eidos Interactive released Hitman: Codename 47, developed by IO Interactive. The third-person stealth action-adventure, in which players take on the deadly missions of assassin Agent 47, spawned a series of sequels and a 2016 reboot. Hitman also generated spin-off novels and a 2007 film starring Timothy Olyphant, and fans the world over are now familiar with the spiky stylised fleur de lis insignia of the International Contract Agency. The ICA is the shadowy murder-for-hire operation Agent 47 joined after he escaped his government creators.
